Our mission at In.Sight is to offer the most effective therapy and mental health treatment to men and men of color in Oakland and the greater Bay Area. We help men of color build emotional resilience and develop healthier coping mechanisms so they can stop feeling disconnected to themselves and others, and most importantly, be the husband/partner they want to be.
As men, we deserve to live the most authentic version our ourselves while wholly thriving individually and in our partnerships/ relationships. We bring the entirety of ourselves everyday into the world not in separate parts as we have been encouraged and conditioned to believe. These parts also include past traumas, conditioning, modeling, grief, anxiety, and maladaptive coping mechanisms which can show up in our personal, professional and romantic spaces. If not addressed, it can inhibit the ability in actualizing the most authentic self.
Men are less likely to seek help in healthcare especially as it relates to their mental health, address associated symptoms which results to under diagnosis leading to more reactionary behavior (i.e heightened irritability, stress) and worst case suicidality. A large component of this is exacerbated by society and gender roles which can endorse a traditional masculinity framework (emphasizing self-reliance, stoicism, reluctance to admit to weakness) and inhibiting their ability to seek assistance or building a cadre of healthy coping mechanisms to deal with life and it’s stressors.
This can lead to feeling arrested by cycles, patterns or reactions to our past which can continue to resurface and wonder, “Why can’t I have that relationship I want?" or “Why do I not feel like my truest self?” If this sounds familiar and you would like to begin to work on shifting these narratives/ schemas towards a more whole and authentic version of yourself - In.Sight is here to partner with you. The Journey
We are honored to work with individuals/ groups with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and understand the importance of cultural competency. A cornerstone of my practice is holding a safe and non-judgmental space while partnering with you to journey towards the most authentic version of yourself.
You will gain the ability and tools to free yourself from being arrested by anxiety/ depression and developing the courage to step into the most authentic version of yourself. We utilize an eclectic therapy approach utilizing relevant techniques from evidence-based therapy modalities (i.e. Psychodynamic, CBT, ACT) where we tailor an individual treatment plan based on your needs.
